Contrary to popular belief the price of electricity is not standardised around the country, some suppliers charge more than others. Many energy companies offer a variety of tariffs and it is more than possible that a householder is currently on a tariff that far exceeds their needs and use, but help is at hand. There are several comparison sites online which you can access on your refurbished PC and find out for yourself what other people are paying, in some cases hundreds of pounds less than their neighbour per year! Many of these comparison sites ask you to input your postcode and supplier and your average bill and they then give you a list of alternatives, the difference in the average electricity prices can be quite staggering and if you can make a saving perhaps use the money to buy a new computer.

As prices and tariffs change with alarming regularity it may be wise to store previous tariff prices on a spreadsheet using your home computer, you can keep a track of your month on month costs without having to sift through a massive pile of old bills. Many of these comparison services are free so if costs you nothing to check out how much you could be saving, a householder really has nothing to lose. Any savings could be utilised to buy the latest multimedia computer or perhaps a refurbished PC for every room in the house plus the software!
